I have a total of 18 creative years of career history behind me.
Initial 6 years I spent in Advertising as copywriter, art director (with WCJ) and an entrepreneur.
Next 8 years in IT as product manager with a leading web portal (sify.com)..
Last 5 years I have been successfully self-employed as professional portrait, architectural and fine art photographer and film maker.
Exceptional skills in shooting in ambient light. My distinct documentary style captures the most original and genuine emotions of even the most camera-shy subjects.I have done more than 500 professional photography sessions. In last 5 years I have acquired tremendous experience in shooting with families, school children and events in my indigenous style. Awareness and brief experience in advertising photography in a studio. Compelling story telling capabilities and contemporary visual sense. Strong organizational skills and communication skills. Ability to think through marketing.Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service aptitude that is polished over last 5 years of self-employment. Skilled in archiving photos with thoughtful tagging. Proficient in Final Cut Pro 7 and Photoshop CS5 especially fine art post production work. Good at Pagemaker. Self-taught and highly motivated.
In 2006, disillusioned with my IT job I quit to become a professional photographer.
I conceptualized and successfully created a niche for my documentary style portrait photography. It was promoted as 'family archives', especially that of children and seniors. Portrait photography market was mostly based in posed studio portraits until then. Later, in architectural photography too I made complete use of the available functional lights and this become my signature style. Besides shooting and post production I did marketing and customer service as well. This helped me be evolved, innovative and influential.
A background in IT particularly helped me leverage the best from online networking for effective marketing. I could use the power of blogging and online photographic forums to network for more exposure. Early in my career I had offered free trial shoots for consenting families and gave them option to BUY images or HIRE me for a full session. I had an amazing 70% conversion. I consistently did telemarketing but strictly among personal references only and consistently tried Internet marketing to the TG.
Have some experience in giving photography classes too.
Right now I am poised to explore more of fashion, editorial and fine art photography and all sorts of film making opportunities.
My compelling story-telling capabilities can be seen in my blog. This could be worthwhile for publishers in particular.
Being self-taught and self-employed has polished my communication skills to my interpersonal skills for delightful customer service. I personally made presentations to potential clients like schools, architects, interior designers, business heads and galleries. All these were helpful in generating further leads from almost all the clients I ever had.
