What does 'sepiastory' mean?
Sepia is a rich brown pigment prepared from the ink of cuttlefish. It is used in photographic print-making to stop it from brittling. The print assumes a shade of brownish red as it ages. Remember those photographs from colonial era in history books? 'Sepia tinted memories' is an expression with connotations on nostalgia. Therefore 'sepiastory' could imply a 'nostalgic story'. In my case its a visual narrative involving people, places, events, spaces and emotions in time, evoking a sense of nostalgia.
What is your experience in photography?
About 500 successful photo sessions in less than 4 years. In a range of authentic portraits, architecture and fine art photography. 100% happy clients. Being self-taught and self-motivated, it is only myself nururing any innate talent, relentless hardwork and commitment that helped me do it this way. It has been liberating, fulfilling and definitely futuristic.
What is the best thing about your work?
My photogrpahic style stems from an unusual combination of patience, creativity and economy in many ways. I shoot until I am happy about the results as per your brief. No matter how many hours or days I spend to get it. I do not care much about the 'trends' but follow my heart. That spontanity makes it more original and timeless.
What are your limitations for any assignments?
Previous commitment for the same day if you insist. Rains or sunlight (or the lack of it) for certain assignments. A negotiating client. A client who persists on me shooting in someone else's style.
Why do people hire a photographer like you who has not studio, no lights, no assistants?
Often, the reason why I get hired by distinguished families for a photo session is quite imaginative. Here are some:
To cherish those special moments of bonding from a family get together. To preserve the priceless moments in your child's life.
To immortalise the graceful presence of all the elderly members in your family, before it is too late.
To prepare a portfolio of upcoming actor/ model or sometimes that of a prospective bride or groom - in your family!
To share the beauty of your family and home, with the increasing list of newly acquired friends.
For fun. Yeah it is a lot of fun to see how you 'really' looked.
Commercial shoots
Architects and interior designers or even builders need their portfolios of work from time to time for archival documentation or marketing purposes.
Fine art or thematic imagery is often required by interior designers or home makers for decorative purposes as well as by art galleries.
What are your deliverables?
Immortality with absolutely stunning images.
Honest, unpretentious and naturally beautiful. The most authentic personality statement one can reflect upon.
A DVD with all great images in very high resolution. This will enable to you to print life size images if need be.
An online album on my website for life. This saves you the trouble of uploading and maintaining.
Archiving. In case you misplace the DVD, I can help you retrieve these images even if its years later.
Complimentary prints if I had enjoyed shooting with you and sometime proportionate to the number of references you give!
How much does an assignment cost?
Depends. Individuals shoot could start from $ 300 onwards. Usually a family shoot could be $ 500 upwards. Typically that is for a single session up to say 3-4 hours. Extended families and get-together have costed from $1000 up to $ 5000.
Architect's portfolio starts at $ 3000 for a day.
After the initial briefing I should be able to give you an approximate idea on this. I usually discourage clients who try to negotiate. Trust me, someone who is looking for 'something less' can never be happy, unless it comes free. I prefer to forget them. Great references are a sure shot way to get a few complimentary prints too.
What are your terms for an assignment?
Hire me only if you have complete trust in my style of imagery.
Brief me in detail on your expectations. Show me some imagery of your liking preferably from my portfolios.
50% advance payment. Rest on delivery of images in prints or DVD or as agreed upon.
